Practice makes perfect for two of Cranleigh Golf & Country Club’s keenest junior members.
The 10-year-old pair of 15-handicapper James Marriott and 19-handicapper Josh Davies made the most of the half-term sunshine with their own golfing marathon – just because they wanted to play as much golf as possible during their break from their respective studies at Cranleigh Prep School and Cranleigh Primary School.
The duo’s busy schedule saw them clock up 200 holes of golf over the week – with 86 in the space of just two days.
One 50-hole marathon saw their attempts to finish their third round of the day only curtailed by the fading light as mum waited to pick them up. But they were still back the following morning for another 36 holes.
Cranleigh head professional Karl Morgan said: “Those two are very dedicated and their handicaps have plummeted in the past few months. It’s no surprise as they put in the practice and both have regular lessons too.
“They wanted to get a third round in one of the days but it was pretty much dark by then and James’ mum was waiting for them beeping the car horn. Then we saw them wandering back in over the hill. The only surprise was that they weren’t still playing wearing headlamps!
“It’s always great to see juniors who have been well and truly bitten by the golf bug. They both already play on the Surrey Futures Tour and I am certain they will go on to become seriously good golfers as they get older.”
The club also hosts regular group junior coaching sessions or individual lessons for keen youngsters eager to learn the game. Call 01483 268855 or email pro@cranleighcountryclub for more details.
